Honorable Etmonia D. Tarpeh is the current Chairman of the National Investment Commission (NIC) appointed by H.E. Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf in 2015. Prior to her appointment as Chairman of NIC, she served as Minister of Education and as Minister of Youth & Sports.
Before working in the government, Minister Tarpeh held various high-level positions with Plan International in several African countries, served as National Director for World Vision International, worked as the Associate Director for Education at the Peace Corps and is a former Director for Hilton VanEe International School in Monrovia. Her professional experience is that of an educator, humanitarian, manager and community leader dedicated to helping others reach their potential.
Minister Tarpeh is a Certified Administrator who holds a BSc in Education from Cuttington University in Suakoko and an MSc in School Administration and Supervision from Duquesne University in Pennsylvania, USA. In addition to working in Liberia, she has also worked in the United States, Philippines, Cameroon, and Senegal which has provided her with more than 30 years of combined experience in management, education and development. Her experience with governmental, non-governmental and community based organizations has helped her to forge strong relationships with donors and implementing partners that support the initiatives of the Ministry of Education. In addition to serving as Minister, she remains involved in the community and continues to provide financial, moral and mentoring support to youth in East, Central and West Africa and Asia.
