NIC Holds Special Investment Incentive Workshop

On March 20, 2018, the National Investment Commission (NIC), with support from the United Nation Development Program (UNDP), through its formulated Communication and Awareness Plan (CAP), hosted a one-day Special Investment Incentive workshop in Monrovia. The workshop, as a part of the robust communication strategy, aimed at creating awareness relative to NIC’s on-going investment initiatives and achievements in creating an enabling business environment; providing information and guidance to domestic businesses about the investment climate, as well as eligibility criteria of the Special Investment Incentives program administered by the Government of Liberia.

The Executive Director, Hon. Molewuleh B. Gray, during his welcome remarks expressed his appreciation to the participants for honoring the invitation of the Commission to be a part of the workshop. He also emphasized the need for partnership between the Government of Liberia and the domestic private sector in contributing to the economic growth of the country. Also making remarks were Mr. Fumbah Trawally from National Toiletries and Mr. Amin Modad from Pur Water who are both current Investment Incentive certificate holders.

The workshop targeted domestic businesses registered with the Liberian Business Registry and currently operating on one of the eligible sectors of the economy. The event provided an opportunity for the government and private sector actors to jumpstart conversation regarding building an enabling environment for the domestic private sector.

Mr. Quinton A. Tunis, Director for the Investment Promotion Department, presented on investment climate and opportunities in Liberia; while Mr. Othello Karr, Incentive Officer within the Private Sector Department at the NIC, presented on the Special Investment Incentive Program.

The workshop which brought together over 100 persons was attended by the Liberian business community with the Liberia Business Association (LIBA) and Liberia Chambers of Commerce (LCC) taking the lead, relevant Ministries/Agencies of Government (Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Liberia Revenue Authority and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry), development partners and staff of the National Investment Commission.
