On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, the Government of Liberia, represented by the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA), National Investment Commission (NIC), Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), Ministry if Justice (MoJ), and Global Logistics Services (GLS) represented by its CEO, Mr. Peter King, signed a twenty-five (25) year concession agreement for the development of a modern Air Cargo facility at the Roberts International Airport (RIA).
The Government is committed to improving Liberia’s Air Cargo sector and to support the growth of domestic trade. This investment is expected to improve cargo handling operations at the RIA and to ensure the construction of modern cargo facility, with international standards of handling and storing air cargoes.
Following the effective date of the agreement, GLS will make an investment of ten million United States dollars ($10,000,000). In addition to this, GLS will carry out all activities required of the Investor as stipulated:
- Contribute to the sustainable development of Liberia Cargo Handling Services
- Ensure the construction of modern infrastructure
In keeping with the Government’s Economic Recovery Plan (ERP), all concession agreements have socially obligated concessionaires, to, among other things, give first priority to qualified Liberians in terms of employment, help improve access to education and healthcare, give preference to Liberian suppliers in terms of procurement, and obey the Environmental Laws of Liberia.
The signing ceremony was attended by representatives of the IMCC, the Management of GLS, the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), and other key stakeholders of Government.
